Description

GEORGE III MAHOGANY BUREAU/BOOKCASE stamped Edwards and Roberts. Dentil moulded shallow pediment over a pair of beveled mirror doors enclosing shelves. The fall front with gilt tooled writing surface and enclosing fifteen mahogany lined drawers above two short and three long graduated mahogany lined drawers standing on bracket feet. The whole piece profusely carved with flowers, scrolling leaves and shell backed C-scrolls. An urn carved to the fall and both the top and base fitted with gilt brass carrying handles .Edwards and Roberts established in 1845- 1899 and had premises in Wardour and Oxford Streets, London. Although they produced a wide range of furniture in differing tastes, it was usually a carful blend of 18Th century revivalism and contemporary need with many works created in Mahogany. Much of their furniture is clearly stamped and is sought after today for its quality and timeless appeal.  Possibly restored or later carved by Edwards & Roberts and retailed through one of their shops
